Special Care, Cleaning and Service Instructions

Watch Care and Maintenance

Watches have become more popular than ever before. Every watch carries its own personality…just like its owner. Below are some tips on how to maintain and care for your watch.

1 Keep your watch clean with a soft cloth.

Your watch is a machine and to keep it running in exceptional condition, we recommend cleaning all the parts (Case, Bracelet, Crystal) on a regular basis. Your body gives off chemicals and outdoor elements can create dirt buildup. Non-abrasive liquid cleaners are recommended for heavily soiled parts. *For watches that are water resistant, use a soft damp cloth. For watches that are not water resistant, use a soft cloth and discretion with any cloth that is dampened. Please note that most watches are only water resistant and not water proof. Always check your paperwork and look on the back of the casing for markings.

2 Avoid contact with chemicals

Everyday chemicals such as creams, cosmetics, sprays, oils, perfumes and even soaps can create rot and oxidation to the casing and strap.  Keep your watch out of extreme weather and heat as it may cause movement and dial damage.

3 Maintain and Service your watch like clockwork!

Do not open your watch.  Please send it back to Steve Soffa Enterprises at the contact address listed, or an authorized watch repair center. We recommend servicing an automatic/mechanical watch every 18 to 24 months. Do not overwind your mechanical watch as this is a common problem amongst repairs. Quartz analog watches are recommended for service every 30 to 36 months. Note, we highly recommend to replace a dead battery right away. By neglecting to do so can cause damage to the movement and the possibility of seepage from an old battery. Do not set your watch near or on anything that is magnetic.

Magnets can negatively affect the timekeeping of your watch and in some cases stopping the battery or movement completely, causing damage beyond repair.

With many moving parts and components, your watch is designed to give you years of pleasure each and every day.  Opening a case back yourself can expose the movement to elements such as dust and other filaments that can damage the operation of the movement. Seals may be dry and cracked and in need of replacing. Protect the crystal of your watch and try and prevent dropping it or hitting the crystal of your watch against a table, doors or any other objects that may cause scratches.

4 Polishing/Reconditioning

If you own a stainless steel or gold watch, getting scratches at times is unavoidable.

We highly recommend having your watch polished/reconditioned when it starts to show extreme wear, scratches or dulling. If your watch is due for maintenance, please inquire about our polishing/reconditioning service. Once your watch is checked in our technicians will assess all work and problem areas. Before any work begins we will contact via email to let you know the price and timeline for its completion.  This is precision work and our reconditioning team wants to give you the best possible outcome to attain factory specifications.

5 Secure your watch in a dry dust free space

We highly recommend that you store your watch or watches in a watch display case or in its original box keeping harmful dust and elements out.

We hope this was helpful.  If you would like to schedule maintenance or reconditioning please visit this link:

All Steve Soffa art in jewelry is designed with the highest quality and attention to detail. Soffa hand selects all stones and materials to ensure that quality you have come to know and expect.  All handmade pieces are unique…just like the owners that wear them.

All jewelry by Steve Soffa is either produced in Platinum, Gold or Sterling Silver. Proper care and maintenance will ensure your jewelry’s luster and give you years of enjoyment.

  • Keep your jewelry clean and polished at all times
  • We highly recommend having your ring/jewelry professionally polished to remove surface scratches. This will also include a deep cleaning to bring your metal back to its original luster. If your jewelry has black rhodium we recommend to have it rhodium plated again as it may have dulled over time
  • Apply makeup, hair spray, gels, lotions or perfume first, and then put on your jewelry. These tend to get into small areas and enough build up can loosen stones over time.
  • Keep away from extreme temperatures and over-exposure to direct sunlight.
  • Avoid wearing your jewelry in the ocean, swimming in pools or showering.  Chlorine and soaps may cause damage or a dulling affect to precious metals.
  • To clean your jewelry, use a soft cloth, jewelry polishing cloth for gold or silver and or nonabrasive cleaning solutions using a soft brush and cloth.

Take care of your prized artistry in jewelry, and it will give you years of enjoyment.
